Is the Dominican Republic the epicenter of a scandal that will take down Presidency of Donald Trump along with his entire family empire?
It seems far fetched that this small country, that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, could end the presidency of an American President. It could all unravel, because of business deals, and guarantees made on this tiny strip of land.
A long-term deal, that has been going on for more than a decade, and cost private investors and the Bank Banreservas hundreds of millions of dollars, is being revived to bring a Trump tower and development to Cap Cana. Even though private investors have lost, the Trump organization has walked away with at least $15 million dollars as documented in this report by Univision.
Now that the Dominican Republic has ended its relationship with Taiwan, I believe we know what was guaranteed to ensure that building codes and zoning laws could be changed to allow the maximum height of building to be increased from 4 to 22 stories to accommodate the building of Trump Tower. Even though local hoteliers in the region are diametrically opposed to this kind of development in the region.
Without confirmation this is merely speculation, but it seems that Trump and his organization made guarantees that if the rules were changed to allow Trump to build a tower in an area reserved for eco-tourism, they would not retaliate for ending diplomatic relations with Taiwan, and allowed the weakening of a major democratic ally in Asia. The only ones who will profit from this activity is the Trumps and it may cost tens of thousands of US lives in a future conflict with China.
