The Federal Government of Canada agreed to a request for help presented by the Dominican Republic to provide equipment and trained personnel to help rescue miners Gregory Alexander Pérez and Carlos Yepes, trapped in the Cerro Maimón mine since last Sunday.
According to a press release, a Boeing C-17 Globemaster military aircraft will depart in the next few hours for the country with a mining excavation system, made up of machines, tools, various rescue technologies with more than 52,000 pounds.
The document also indicates that among the equipment transported by the aircraft that would land at the José Francisco Peña Gómez Las Américas International Airport, there is a Cubex Model 6200 drill, which weighs more than 25,000 pounds with its mast.
As well as an R-110 Cubex Booster, an 8,500-pound equipment reinforcement, as well as racks of rods, transformers and miscellaneous material make up the rest of the equipment.
“Aid to the Dominican Republic from Canada for the rescue of miners Gregory Alexander Méndez Torres and Carlos Yépez Ospina, is carried out in coordination with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense, the Canadian Armed Forces and their counterparts in the Dominican Republic”, indicates the letter.
Likewise, it indicates that the aircraft will arrive on Dominican soil this Sunday, August 7, from the Val-d’Or Regional Airport, located five hours north of Ottawa, and landing at the Las Américas International Airport in the afternoon of the same day. .
Said equipment provided for the rescue operation “is a solidarity gesture of a humanitarian nature – by the company Machines Roger International, a mining company established in Val-d’Or, Canada, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Melaine Joly”.
The request of the Dominican Government to Canada was made under the direct coordination of President Luis Abinader; Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and the ambassador to Canada, Michelle Cohen.
