In 75% decreased traffic accidents during Holy Week 2019 in RD

Santo Domingo, RD.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported that 33 people died during the Easter holiday in the country, of which 18 were reported within the operation and 15 outside it.

“Deceased within the device, 18. Deceased outside the device, 15”, said Juan Manuel Méndez, director of the COE, at a press conference. He explained that of the total number of people killed during the operation, 16 people died in traffic accidents and two asphyxiated by immersion.

He said that last year there were 741 traffic accidents and this year there were 181, for a reduction of 75 percent.

In the final bulletin on the Holy Week operative 2019 “A Pact for Life”, it is also highlighted that the assistance offered at the national level was about 81,542.

During the holiday 63 children were lost and later they were returned to their parents by the authorities, 57 people were saved from dying by drowning in the different spas of the country.

In the provinces that registered the most cases were: Santo Domingo with 40 percent, Puerto Plata with 6 percent, Santiago with 4.4 percent, La Vega with 4.4 percent, La Romana with 4 percent and finally Monseñor Nouel with 4.4 percent.

Some 760 people were intoxicated by alcohol intake.

The traffic accidents recorded during the holiday of the Major Week were a total of 181, 1900 people were affected.
