Nicolás Maduro wins the Presidential Elections in Venezuela

With more than 67 percent of the votes, Nicolás Maduro is re-elected after a poll that took place in an atmosphere of peace.

 

The candidate of the Frente Amplio de la Patria, or FAP, a coalition of leftists and communists parties, Nicolás Maduro, is the winner of the presidential elections in Venezuela this Sunday with 5,823,728 votes, reported the National Electoral Council (CNE).

The president of the CNE, Tibisay Lucena, details that 8,603,936 million votes valid during the electoral day.

The candidate Nicolás Maduro was re-elected with 5,823,728 votes (67.7 percent) in elections that passed without incident and with an electoral participation of 46.01 percent, a projection of 48 percent.

The second most voted candidate is Henri Falcón, of Avanzada Progresista (AP), is an anti-Chavista progressive political party in Venezuela, founded by former members of For Social Democracy (PODEMOS), Fatherland for All and the United Socialist Party of Venezuela in June 2012, with 1 million 820,552 votes (21.1 percent) of the votes.

Also, in third place is Javier Bertucci, of Hope for Change, with 925,042 of the votes, while Reinaldo Quijada, of the Unidad Popular Política 89 party (UPP89), has 34,614 votes of Venezuelans.

A total of 20,526,978 Venezuelans in the country and 107,284 residing abroad are authorized to exercise their right to vote in the 14,638 polling centers and 34,143 voting stations distributed throughout the country.

Election day began at 06:00 local time (10:00 GMT) and ended at 6:00 pm (22:00 GMT). The elections had an International Accompaniment Plan, with 150 participants from around the world.

Among the companions were politicians, academics, parliamentarians, intellectuals, journalists and personalities from Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, North America and Asia.
