Several Dominican National Ministries Hacked

This is an evolving story, please visit this page later for further updates. Today the website of the Dominican National Controller and the Ministry of Culture were taken over by Pakistani hackers. The websites text has been replaced with messages from the hacking group Packistani Zindabad.

It is not known why the hackers chose to take over the website, it may have just had widely known vulnerability that made the websites easy to breach. In addition, this could just be the tip of the iceberg, and these superficial hacks of public websites could be precursors and distractions to further incursions of critical internal systems.

Update 1 – February 6, 2022 11:00AM Atlantic Time:
The websites are now displaying the error 503 Servicio No Disponsible with the contact information of the Governmental Office of Technology and Communication.

Update 2 – February 6, 2022 11:30AM Atlantic Time:
The website of the National Controller of the Dominican Republic has been restored.
