There are 235 deaths from COVID-19 and 4,964 positives in the Dominican Republic

The positive cases of coronavirus in the Dominican Republic are close to five thousand, according to bulletin # 32 issued by the Ministry of Public Health this Monday, April 20, which reports 284 new positives.

In this sense, the number of infected people amounts to 4,964, while the deaths increased to 235, when nine deaths were registered in the last 24 hours.

The Minister of Public Health, Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas, also reported that 128 patients are in Intensive Care units for complications of the disease.

While 416 people have been discharged after overcoming the disease.

Regarding the suspected cases, the minister reported that 11,718 cases have been discarded through laboratory tests. In this regard, he explained that 16,682 PCR tests and 41,127 rapid tests have been performed for a total of 57,809 tests since the virus was registered in the country on March 1.

Most of the cases confirmed by coronavirus are distributed in five provinces, with the National District being the most affected district with a cumulative figure of 1,281 cases, followed by Santo Domingo with 871 cases, Santiago with 635, Duarte province with 486 and La Vega with 351 positives.

By place of residence, most of the deaths have been recorded in the Duarte province (68), another 35 in the Santo Domingo province, 33 in Santiago, 32 in the National District, 9 in the Hermanas Mirabal province and 9 in Puerto Silver.

Nationally, 79% of deaths ((186/235) corresponded to men, the mean age being 62 years. As a antecedent of morbidity, arterial hypertension was identified in 25% of patients; diabetes in 20% and chronic lung disease in 5%.
