Abinader climbed the steps of the National Palace at 10:00 in the morning with Raquel Peña, her vice-president-elect and Roberto Fulcar, head of the electoral campaign for the country’s president-elect.

After a few minutes of the meeting, the companions of the president-elect and the current government left the presidential office, and the two presidents were left alone, for the first meeting to coordinate the transfer of command.

Roberto Fulcar, Abinader’s campaign manager and Raquel Peña, vice-president-elect, retired to the offices of the administrative minister, José Ramón Peralta, accompanied by the legal consultant, Flavio Darío Espinal and the minister of the Presidency, Gustavo Montalvo.

The new president triumphed in the elections on Sunday, July 5, with 52% of the national votes cast.

One day after Abinader’s victory was made official, President Danilo Medina created the Government Transition Commission made up of Gustavo Montalvo, Minister of the Presidency, who will preside over it; José Ramón Peralta, Donald Guerrero, Juan Ariel Jiménez, Zoraima Cuello and Flavio Darío Espinal.

The president-elect has yet to appoint a commission to work together on the transfer of command.

The inauguration of the new government will take place on August 16 and will do so amid the pandemic of the new coronavirus, which has affected the national economy significantly.

This has been a short transition process due to the effects of the pandemic that until this Wednesday registers 39,588 confirmed cases in the Dominican Republic, with 1,158 new positives.
