7.0 magnitude earthquake shakes Haiti and the Dominican Republic

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck western Haiti on Saturday, according to the National Seismology Center of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).

The movement was also felt in the Dominican Republic, causing alarm in the population.

The tremor occurred at 8:29 in the morning and was located 18 kilometers from the Haitian region Los Cayos and 244.3 kilometers west of Jimaní.

Haiti was affected in January 2010 by a 7-magnitude earthquake, which left 300,000 dead, the same number of injured and 1.5 million affected.
