The world exceeds 72 million cases of coronavirus

The serious impact of the coronavirus pandemic in the world: more than 72 million infections and 1.6 million deaths, according to the Noticia al Día portal.

This is reflected in the data from Johns Hopkins University. Spain has dropped from sixth to new position in the table of the countries most affected in the world by the coronavirus epidemic. A ranking that leads the US with 16 million people infected and almost 300,000 deaths from the disease.

The new balance of this Sunday published by Johns Hopkins University brings the number of people affected by the coronavirus to 72,084,868 after the Turkish authorities declared this week approximately 800,000 additional new infections – until now it only included patients with symptoms -, while the number of deceased already exceeds 1.6 million people. With the new data, the global count of fatalities now reaches 1,605,468, while the patients who have recovered now exceed 46 million, with India leading the way with more than 9.3 million people cured.

The United States has registered in recent weeks the worst case data of the entire pandemic and adds more than 219,000 positives and 2,300 deaths in the last daily balance, which exceeds 16 million people infected, also leading the classification by number of deceased, with 297,837 fatalities. India, the second most affected country in the world, continues with the downward trend in the rate of infections. So far, it has more than 9.8 million cases and accumulates 143,019 deaths.

Brazil remains in third position in this classification, which is configured based on data from 191 countries and territories with coronavirus cases. The South American giant has registered more than 6.8 million cases and 181,123 deaths. In the case of Russia, it has 2.6 million positives and 45,923 deaths, while France, in fifth place, has so far registered 2.4 million infections and 57,671 deaths.

In sixth place, the United Kingdom accumulates 1.83 million confirmed cases and 64,123 fatalities, ahead of Italy, which has confirmed 1.8 million positives and 64,036 deaths. The revelation of the new cases has catapulted Turkey to eighth position on the world list. The country goes from 955,766 to 1.8 million infections and 16,199 deaths, ahead of Spain, with 1.73 million infections and 47,624 deaths.

Next, and completing the top 10, is Argentina, the second country with the most cases in Latin America and which already has 1.49 million positives and 40,668 deaths. Colombia accumulates 1.4 million cases and 38,866 fatalities. Germany is also over one million cases, with 1.33 million positives and 21,900 fatalities; Mexico, which records 1.24 million positives and 113,704 deaths; Poland, which registers 1.12 million infections and 22,676 deaths, and Iran, which accumulates 1.1 million positives with 51,949 deaths.

Still below one million, Peru has 980,943 people with coronavirus and 36,544 deaths. Ukraine in turn adds 918,015 infections and 15,684 deaths, ahead of South Africa, the country most affected by the pandemic in Africa, with 852,965 infected and 23,106 deaths. Above half a million positives are the Netherlands (613,630), Indonesia (611,631), Belgium (605,966), Czech Republic (575,422), Iraq (573,622), Chile (569,781) and Romania (551,900).

With more than 400,000 positives are Bangladesh (489,178), Canada (458,527), the Philippines (448,331) and Pakistan (438,425). Already in the arc of the 300,000 infections are Morocco (397,597), Switzerland (373,831), Saudi Arabia (359,749), Israel (356,015), Portugal (344,700), Sweden (320,098) and Austria (319,822). In the range of 200,000 to 300,000 infections are Hungary (276,247), Serbia (261,437), Jordan (257,275), Nepal (247,593) and Ecuador (201,524).

Above 100,000 positives are Panama, Georgia, Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Armenia, Bolivia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Slovakia, Guatemala, Oman, Greece, Egypt, Moldova, Ethiopia, Honduras, Tunisia, Palestinian Territories, Denmark, Burma and Venezuela. China, the country where the pandemic originated, has 94,127 infected and 4,748 fatalities.
