The new coronavirus has caused at least 282,447 deaths worldwide since it appeared in December, according to a balance established by AFP based on official sources, this Monday at 11H00 GMT.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, more than 4,117,740 cases of contagion were recorded in 195 countries or territories. The number of positive diagnosed cases, however, only reflects a part of the total number of infections due to the different policies of the different countries to diagnose the cases, some only do it with those people who need hospitalization. Authorities believe that so far at least 1,388,600 people have been cured of the disease.
The death toll in the United States, which recorded its first death linked to the virus in early February, stands at 79,528. The country registered 1,329,799 infections. The authorities consider that 216,169 people were healed.
After the United States, the most affected countries are the United Kingdom with 31,855 deaths and 219,183 cases, Italy with 30,560 deaths (219,070 cases), Spain with 26,744 deaths (227,436 cases), and France with 26,380 deaths (176,970 cases).
Mainland China (not counting Hong Kong and Macao), where the epidemic broke out in late December, has a total of 82,918 infected people, of whom 4,633 died and 78,144 were completely healed. In the last 24 hours, 17 new cases and 0 deaths have been registered.
On Monday at 11:00 GMT and since the beginning of the epidemic, Europe added 156,449 deaths (1,748,140 infections), the United States and Canada 84,338 (1,397,802), Latin America and the Caribbean 20,888 (373,716), Asia 10,736 (299,747 ), Middle East 7,636 (227,086), Africa 2,275 (62,968), and Oceania 125 (8,284).
