The newly appointed ambassador of the government in charge of Venezuela before the OAS, Gustavo Tarre, intervened for the first time on Tuesday in the body, assuring that this entity will be essential for the “reconstruction” of his country. Tarre also said that he will request the re-entry of Venezuela to the Inter-American Human Rights system, from which the representatives of Nicolás Maduro had left.

Tarre will present to the regional body the “country plan” promoted by interim president Juan Guaidó, 100 days after he took on a frank challenge to Nicolás Maduro to reverse the deep crisis the nation suffers.

The OAS and its Secretary General, Luis Almagro, have been vital to make visible and denounce the serious political, economic and social crisis that Venezuela is going through. The organism has condemned in several occasions the actions of the Maduro government and cataloged as illegitimate and fraudulent his second mandate assumed on January 10.

With equal vehemence, he welcomed the interim government since Guaidó was sworn in on January 23.

Maduro and his followers consider that the OAS has violated the rules of the organization, which it criticizes, for what it categorizes as “interference” in the internal affairs of the country.

The representative of Nicaragua, reaffirmed his opposition to the decision to accept Tarre in the agency saying that the resolution that was approved to do so contains “vices of absolute nullity and no decision taken on the basis of it has validity.”

Tarre was named by Guaidó as ambassador of the government in charge of the OAS after assuming as president in charge of the nation on January 23.

But he had to wait for the departure of the representative of the government in dispute. According to the rules of the agency, a period of two years was necessary to make the exit.

In a letter addressed to the current president of the Permanent Council of the OAS and US ambassador, Carlos Trujillo, the Guaidó representative asked that the Venezuelan issue be included in the agenda.

“It is an honor for the Venezuelan delegation to request this item on the agenda (to) explain the plan of action for the reconstruction of the country under the interim government of President Juan Gerardo Guaidó Márquez,” says the letter.

The ambassador of Guaidó in the United States, Carlos Vecchio, will participate in the OAS session that he has described as “historic”.
