Juan Guaidó: Political output is achieved with the union of all forces and popular pressure

The President of the National Assembly (AN), Juan Guaidó, indicated that Venezuela’s only political solution to a “dictatorship” is through “the union of all forces, with the pressure of the popular will”, the support of “the Armed Forces and the international community to restore democracy”.

During an interview for the Spanish magazine Cambio 16, the legislative head asserted that the only legitimate authority in the country is the national Parliament, backed by the OAS, the Lima Group, the US, Canada and the European Union.

Guaidó reiterated that the AN will assume all the powers conferred by the Constitution for a transitional government to convene “as soon as possible” presidential elections.

He described as “momentous” the decisions taken by the Parliament during the session of January 15, because “we approved the usurpation of the First Magistracy, the Executive, which, in addition, leaves without effect any decision taken. So long has this Government denied this regime, which became the usurper of power. “

In the aforementioned session, the blocking of the accounts of the Nicolás Maduro government abroad was also requested to “not allow the use of state funds to continue stealing,” according to what Guaidó said during the interview. The measure also seeks to prevent “Maduro from usurping powers”.

The highest representative of the Legislature pointed out that the Constitution of the Republic “also speaks of the need to achieve the cessation of the usurpation”, for which it indicates that the military “are necessary”, “as was done on January 23, 1958 in our country to be able to rescue democracy “, referring to the overthrow of Marcos Pérez Jiménez’s dictatorship.

Usurpation” of the Executive Power

“Today Maduro uses the presidential band. Today Maduro uses part of the symbols of power. That does not make him president, because he stole an election; because it manipulated the whole Rule of Law; because he dismantled the Constitution. Now, the national Parliament can exercise powers, “said Guaidó.

He also pointed out that he sees the “regime” divided and that, on the contrary, the “opposition unit is consolidated”.

The parliamentarian stressed that the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), chaired by Diosdado Cabello, “is not recognized by anyone,” in response to statements where the official leader said any act of the AN that interferes with the new term of Nicolás Maduro -2019-2025- will be considered “null and without any legal value”, because for the Government the Legislature is in “contempt”.

Guaidó recalled that the magistrate of the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court, Christian Zerpa, who, according to the declaration of contempt, is in exile and admitted to having received coercion.

The leader of the orange canopy called on the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) to participate in the “political transition” proposed.

“Also in the army they are suffering from shortages, lack of food, drinking water that does not come through the pipes, there is no public transport, their families leave, they are killed. military is to be placed next to the national Constitution, “he said.

With regard to the “route to transition” that drives the National Assembly, “open chapters” have already been held in Greater Caracas and in the states of Vargas, Carabobo, Táchira, Anzoátegui and Lara.

On January 23, the AN invited the Venezuelans to a mobilization in “attachment” to the Constitution. As part of a counter-march, the pro-government sector will also take to the streets this day.

On January 5, the new board of directors of the AN was installed for the 2019-2020 legislative period as established in the Constitution of the Republic. Members elected were Juan Guaidó, of Voluntad Popular (VP), as president of Parliament; Edgar Zambrano, of Acción Democrática (AD), as first vice president; and Stalin González, from Un Nuevo Tiempo, as second vice president.

On January 10, Nicolás Maduro was sworn in before the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) as President of the Republic for a second presidential term in view of the “contempt” in which the AN is found. This fact was unknown by the National Assembly, the Lima Group with the exception of Mexico, the OAS, Canada and the USA.

The European Union regretted that the national government had not heard the calls for new presidential elections.

In this sense, on January 11, Guaidó announced that it adhered to the articles of the Constitution 333, 350 and 233 “to achieve the effective conformation of the Transitional Government”. “So the National Assembly, making use of the Constitution, assumes part of these elements. And I say ‘part’ because today this is a fact of force in Venezuela, a dictatorship. And as a dictatorship that is needs the compass of all sectors of society to solve the problem, “he said at the time.
