Juan Guaidó in Argentina: “In the coming days we return to the streets of Venezuela, we resist again”
After a meeting with the president, Mauricio Macri at the Quinta de Olivos, the interim president of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, offers a press conference at the Argentine Foreign Ministry with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jorge Faurie.
“Argentina has welcomed a large number of Venezuelans and appreciated the gesture we have had with our compatriots,” said the leader of the National Assembly of Venezuela.
“Today begins a new stage of relations between Venezuela and Argentina, a relationship based on fundamental values, not in the interests of a few.” He added: “I want to thank President Macri and the people who welcomed many Venezuelans, we deeply appreciate the gesture we have had with the Venezuelans and that was moving in the Plaza San Martín to thousands of Venezuelans.”
From the Foreign Ministry of Argentina, the Venezuelan opposition made an effort in the illegitimacy of the current government of Nicolás Maduro: “We won the elections and that is why we are here.” This is not a problem of ideology, the dilemma today in Venezuela is between dictatorship or democracy, is between poverty and misery, progress and prosperity.
“The meeting today (with Macri) is historic, the times ago were money bags, corruption, and comes a stage of flowering, healthy relationships, talking about agro-industry,” he said.
He concluded: “Today we are going home to so many Venezuelans, we are going back to the streets of Venezuela in the coming days, we are resisting again, this message is for all Venezuelans, wait in the next few hours, days, for a great convocation.”
During the round of questions from the journalists, Guaidó answered about the military option and affirmed that it poses a dilemma of “war or peace”, and “our option is peace”.
“It’s not that we pick up the phone and the military option comes in. You have to have a lot of responsibility, it’s the last option, it’s something that nobody wants, and in any case the plan will be: cessation of the usurpation and call for free elections,” he added. .
Guaidó arrived in Buenos Aires from Asunción after a meeting with President Mario Abdo. On Thursday he was received by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in Brasilia and at the beginning of the week he participated in the summit of the Lima Group in Bogotá.
Colombia had arrived on Friday 22, after leaving his country by land to participate in the solidarity concert Venezuela Aid Live. His tour challenged a ban on leaving the country dictated by the Chavista Justice, which justified that decision in an investigation that is related to his proclamation as interim president, on January 23.
It is not known when he will return to his country and, although Guaidó himself has said he plans to return this week, the National Assembly has authorized him to be out of Venezuela for a period of more than five days, so his trip could be extended and include visits to other South American leaders.
At the moment, it is confirmed that he will visit Ecuador on Saturday, to interview with President Lenin Moreno.
